Get Involved at Parkway Heights Middle School
Join TEAM Parkway. Parental involvement is one of the keys to the success of your child! We understand work and outside commitments may make it feel as though you cannot give your time, but we are flexible with the ways you can volunteer. Even if you haven't been involved in the past, it's never too late to start. In fact, it may be more important than ever to get involved when your kids reach middle and high school. Some of the things we are looking for volunteers to help with are
Starting middle school can be a difficult transition for some. Students must follow a block schedule with four different periods. They now have lockers in different parts of the school and must memorize locker combinations and carry their books and supplies to different classes. All of this can be tough to get used to.
Volunteering is a good way to help ensure a smooth transition from elementary to middle school for your child. Research also shows that students do better when their families are involved at home and at school. That's why our school values parental involvement and why parents are always welcome at Parkway Heights. There are many ways to get involved and stay involved:
- Attend "Back to School Night".
- Join the parent-teacher association (PTA).
- Attend school board meetings.
- Chaperone field trips.
- Organize book fairs.
- Participate in community cleanup days.
- Speak at career day.
- Volunteer for school-sponsored events or fundraisers.
- Volunteer in the school library.
- Model lifelong learning and the value of education.
- Encourage curiosity, problem-solving, and independent thinking in your child.
- Stay in contact with teachers and counselors to monitor grades and voice concerns.
- Recognize the importance of regular attendance by reducing the amount of time your child misses school for vacations, dentist and doctor appointments, etc.
